My parents started taking me on backcountry canoe trips when I was one year old, and I quickly developed a love for the outdoors, particularly being on the water. When I started rowing in my first year of high school, it was another instant love. Being on the water, working hard, and being surrounded by amazing people who also love rowing, is incredibly important to me.
My canoe tripping experiences (paddling flat water and rapids, on up to month-long trips) taught me resilience and the importance of team-work. I developed the capacity to face difficult physical and mental challenges with determination and positivity. I learned how to rely on my team, to work hard for my team, and to support others when they need me. Now I find rowing reinforcing these same skills! I am passionate about the sport and deeply appreciate everything it is teaching me.
I find myself applying these lessons in my daily life, and in my academics. I am extremely grateful for the education I receive, and I always put forth my best effort in every class I attend, no matter how hard it is. I enjoy taking on new challenges and learning new things. I am excited for the many opportunities and life experiences that university will offer, in the classroom and on the water!
