I started as a coxswain when I was a freshman in high school. Before this, I had tried just about every sport there is, but nothing spoke to me. The minute I stepped into the Marin Rowing boathouse, I felt like I belonged there. During my freshman year, I fell in love with rowing, being on the water, the community it brings, and the way it pushes me to be my best self.
At school, I urge myself to do the best I can. Although I definitely would call myself a STEM girl, I push myself to excel in all subjects. I am a straight-A student and try to take rigorous classes in all subjects. I value my education; therefore, I strive to get the best education I can receive.
Outside of school, when I am not at practice, I like to make a difference. When I lived in California, I started a non-profit on my own called SchoolMates. SchoolMates allowed people to put their extra school supplies to a good cause. When someone donated supplies, SchoolMates donated them to local schools and teachers that did not have the funds to buy them.
In college, I know I want to be able to do everything I love. I want to have an education I am passionate about, one that challenges me. The community and thrill I get from rowing are like none before; rowing is something I never plan on giving up. I also want to make a difference, whether big or small; when I graduate, I would like to be able to say: this is what I did during college.
