My name is Carter Whitley, class of 2027, and I am a center back, the JV1 kicker for Midlothian High School, and the first female to play football at the high school level in Midlothian, Texas.
I currently play for the Solar 09 Naizer team that plays in in the Elite 64 Regional League and National League PRO.
Soccer has always been a big part of my life and I have been playing for as long as I can remember. I had my first real practice at the age of 3 with my older sisters U8 team, because I couldn’t be kept off the field. Then at the age of 4 1/2 I was able to attend my first soccer camp held at Southern Methodist University. As soon as I was old enough, I volunteered to be an assistant coach for a U5 team, although the season ended early because of covid. Now I am currently referee as well as play.
As a center back I know that I play a vital role in helping my team become successful. I thrive in wanting to lead my team to victory by setting an example for them in pushing myself in every game and practice. My strengths of being a center back is being able to be a coachable player, playing quick out of the back, having technical ability, as well as having a great attitude and high work ethic. If I’m not playing as a center back I also could play as a defensive mid and have played right back.
As important as soccer is to me, learning and obtaining an education has always been just as important. I am looking for a university that has a good pre-med program to help fulfill my goal of being a trauma surgeon. With this, I would like to find a university for where I can thrive both in soccer as well as academics.
In addition to sports, I have spent 7 years in choir and participate in community theatre musicals and plays. I also spent my life participating in archaeological excavations and, since I was 8 years old, working as an archaeological laboratory assistant at a site in New Mexico. We spend three weeks each summer excavating, immersing ourselves in the local culture and interacting with the Taos and Picuris Tribes in Taos, NM, and the rest of the year analyzing artifacts at a laboratory in Texas.
