My name is Ary Nelson and I will be beginning my Senior year in the fall. I attend Rensselaer Central High School, a small school in rural Indiana. I began swimming competitively at the age of 7 for the Rensselaer Summer Swim Team. I have always had a natural love for the sport and feel most at home in the water. I knew I wanted to be a swimmer after watching Michael Phelps swim in the 2012 Olympics. I remember going to swim lessons after and insisting they teach me how to do the butterfly.
My teammates say I have a bright and bubbly personality. My coaches say I'm a natural leader with a positive attitude. I make it my top priority to learn everyone's names so I can encourage them, cheer them on, and build relationships. If I'm not racing an event, you will find me cheering for everyone, whether they are a teammate or an opponent. I'm known for my sportsmanship which led to my teammates selecting me for the Sportsmanship Award in 8th grade and the MVP Award as a freshman And again my Sophomore year.
When I see myself in the future swimming is always there. I am looking for a college that has a strong family connection, rigorous academic program, and a superb coaching staff that will allow me to continue my love of swimming while pursuing my dream of becoming an engineer.
