Competitive swimming has shaped my life. I enjoy being on a team with others and racing together with the common goal of improving times over the years. Being able to see hard work paying off has been incredibly gratifying. I am a two-time MVP of my high school team.
In addition to swimming competitively, I have balanced a rigorous academic career. This year, I am taking challenging honors courses and AP classes. Currently, I am an active member of two clubs at my high school. These include Woodgrove for Women and Student Counsel Administration. I have taken advantage of volunteer opportunities at Woodgrove for Women and enjoy helping raise money for organizations that benefit women in my community.
Furthermore, I have given back to this sport that I love in several ways. I spent two summers as a junior coach for my summer league team at a young age and helped improve my team mates' strokes and motivate them at meets. This past summer, I was a swim instructor and taught kids how to swim and perfect their technique. For this effort I was earned a Bronze award from the County. Additionally, I worked as a lifeguard at the local County pool and continued life guarding once a week when school started. Also this fall, I began volunteering with the Special Olympics and assisted at their swim practices. It has been a very hands on experience that I have thoroughly enjoyed. I have learned how each individual in the Special Olympics group has very unique needs and ways to learn. Being able to help others experience the fun of swimming has been incredibly fulfilling, whatever their swim level might be.
I am currently leaning towards majoring in science and math, potentially Environmental Engineering.
