Personal Statement
I have been running since I was 12 years old. I found a love for running when I joined Centennial High School's cross country team. I have not always been a very skilled cross country runner. I didn't discover my true capability for racing until my Junior season. From the start of that particular cross country season, my coaches and my teammates saw a switch in my effort in cross country. I had a total change of mindset, and I truly learned what it meant to be a racer, not simply a runner. I often discussed with my coaches how I could improve my races, and I tried their suggestions. I started my season with going to state as a goal for myself and my team, which ended up being a reality when Centennial's girls varsity team made it to state for the first time in 8 years. Even though I had not considered it in previous seasons, I realized that with this season of great improvement, running at the collegiate level could become a reality.
I am a leader and I try constantly to be a good example to everyone around me. As a team captain, I often spoke to my teammates about how they could improve individually and how to strengthen their mental aspect in racing. I helped to push everyone on my cross country team to perform their best in races and workouts. I tried hard to help everyone to feel included. My team voted me the most inspirational girl on the team.
In the classroom I am very self motivated. I attend a charter school that challenges me more than many of my teammates. I constantly strive to be the best in my grades and my effort in my classroom compared to my peers.
I want to attend a college where I can challenge myself both in the classroom and as a runner. I am open to all options, and ultimately want to find the right college to fit my desire to learn and compete as an athlete. I hope to become a great example to all my peers and my teammates.
