I joined track my junior year of high school as an extracurricular that would allow me to be in shape. At first, I chose to do the sport to provide me an opportunity to make new friends and to keep myself occupied. I originally thought that track was an easy sport, but I soon realized that it required a positive mindset to progress. I participated in soccer as a forward my freshman year and was a flyer in cheerleading my freshman and sophomore year. I quickly found my love for running after getting the just of the practices and seeing improvements. I became impressed with myself after my first meet and pictured myself having a future in this sport. I was committed and started to set goals for myself at every practice and meet. Track has been unlike any other sport I have done in the past; track has taught me how to be a team player and how to work hard. In this sport, I have trained my mind to continue running no matter the amount of pain I am in. I also have disciplined myself to exercise at home to stay consistent with my times. I apply my coach's advice to my performance too. The track community has become my second family that wants only the best for me, and I encourage my teammates to reach their goals as well.
Outside the track, I am dedicated to enhancing my understanding of the different subjects I'm studying. I research artificial intelligence and robotics under my school's Science Research Program. I also volunteer at Best Friends Lifesaving Center and with Linens N Love to coordinate projects we are passionate about.
Although I do not have much experience in track compared to most, I will never let that get in the way of me accomplishing my goals. I am always working towards something in track and in school. My tough days have and will continue to push me to be my best. I hope to concentrate in biomedical engineering and/or education in college. I also plan to reach specific running times and receive advice from coaches that will not only prepare me for track, but for life.
