Personal Statement
All my life I went to a 1A school with not much competiton. There wasn't much to push me during practices or meets. After going to a 1A school for 12 years I had to move the end of my junior year to Allen, Tx, a big 5A school. Here in Allen there was so much more competition and more athleticism than I had experienced before. But that just made me try so much harder and push me to be a better athlete. I moved to Allen just in time for track season and I tried my hardest to get a spot on the varsity team. I made varsity and did everything I could to show my coach he made the right decision. At the small 1A school that i went to I was on varsity basketball, varsity cross country and varsity track. I got mvp for cross country for 3 years. Me being 5'4 has a real disadvantage in all the sports I play. In basketball being 5'4 and weighing 110 it was really hard to be aggressive under the goal but I made up for that on the three point line and being a point guard. I always had an advantage in cross country being able to run for a long distance at a fast pace. I was the top runner at my 1A school and a lot of people looked up to me. Playing so many sports for most of my life I became a really good team player and leader. I help people whenever they are struggleing or if they have questions. During track season my best event was tripple jump. For some reason that was just the thing I looked forward to the most. I ran the 4x200 and 4x400 at my 1A school and was always the last leg. My coach looked at me "to bring the team home." Something just in my body pushes me to run like the wind to were I can't even feel my legs. It's such an amazing feeling to know you helped your team finish with a win. When I moved to Allen I didn't play basketball or run cross country. I focused on track since it was track season. I wasn't in any running events, just tripple jump. At the district track meet last year in April my farthest jump was a 32'5, but that wasn't my personal record. The farthest I have ever tripple jumped is 35'3. This summer was the first time I ever tried long jump and I would say I was average. I ended the summer with a personal record of 15'1. Anything I can do to better myself I do. I would go to the gym and practice basketball and I would stay and shoot around when everyone else left. I go to the track and practicing jumping on the weekends or later after pracitce is over. I'm dedicated to the sports I play. They are my passion and I do anything I can do to better myself. There are only two schools I have looked into and that is Midwestern State and UT Tyler. I picked those two schools because they are relatively close to home and they both have really good kinesiology programs. I'm not against going to any other school. The type of school honestly doesn't matter to me I just want something not to far from home. The reason being is because in April of 2011 my dad was diagnosed with kidney failure. He was put on immediate dyalisis and was unable to go to work. He was out of work for 7 months and only had short term disability which ended around August/September 2011. In July my dad had a stroke and a seisure in the same day. His blood pressure was out of control and they didnt know what to do anymore. Nothing would help it. The doctors made the bold decision of taking both of his kidneys out. My dad now has no kidneys and is on dyalisis three times a week, In November 2011 he started going back to work and started the new year working full time. It has been a lot to go through but we have now gone 2 months without a hospital visit which is really refreshing. I would like to major in Kinesiology or Sports Medicine and maybe minor in business. I would like to pursue a career in the Physical Therapy department.
