When I stepped onto a volleyball court for the first time in seventh grade, I was playing in high-top Converse sneakers and didn’t have a clue what I was doing. It wasn’t long before I discovered a newfound passion that has enriched my life in so many ways. After spending the last four years on the court, I have learned the importance of commitment, grit, resilience, and teamwork. Between the lifelong family I found on the court and the endless ways I can continue to improve, volleyball is the most fulfilling journey I’ve ever been on.
My ideal college experience includes being part of a team, traveling, playing volleyball, and preparing myself for a future and career where I can make a difference. I hope to attend a university that will challenge me academically and allow me to continue playing the sport I love! I’ve now played as the starting Middle Hitter on my club team, Genuine Volleyball, for four years. I also played as the starting Middle Hitter on the Pacific Ridge varsity team, the Firebirds, in my sophomore year. Our 2022 season highlights included winning first place in the Mission Bay Buch Bash, finishing second in our conference, and third in San Diego CIF, Division II. Ultimately, we had the winningest season in the history of Pacific Ridge women's volleyball.
In the classroom, I’m an organized, self-driven, and hardworking student. I currently have a 4.12 GPA and consistently achieve high grades. I go above and beyond when given the opportunity, and I care deeply about improving my community and reaching out globally. I received the Pacific Ridge Creativity Award for my dedication to exploring music, studio art, and more. Earlier this year, I was a top-ten finalist for the Memorial Project, which allowed me to speak publicly to my grade, faculty, and school leadership about Asian American resilience throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
As a collegiate player, I would maintain the coachability and strong work ethic that have helped me grow over the years. From regular private lessons to summer strength training camps, I'm always motivated to put in extra time and effort to improve my game. I love to receive feedback so I can grow as a player and a person, and I have a strong athlete mindset that keeps me calm, centered, and flexible on the court. I highly value my relationships with my teammates and always encourage them to play their best and maintain a positive attitude. It's also important to me to help the next generation of young people succeed in this sport. I recently started assistant coaching the 12's team at my club, and it has been so fun to share my love of volleyball with these young girls.
Volleyball makes me happier than any sport I’d ever played before, and I hope to achieve my dream of playing collegiate volleyball!
