Hello Coaches, and thank you for taking the time to review my profile and for reading my statement. My name is Halana Harvey and I’m a 17 year old Junior who plays as a pin hitter(mostly outside) on my school’s varsity team as a starter, although I am open to learning or taking on any position if need be.
As I take the time to write this personal statement, my heart swells with gratitude and excitement. Volleyball has been an integral part of my life, shaping my character, instilling discipline, and nurturing a relentless drive to succeed in all aspects of life. It has taught me valuable lessons both on and off the court, and has given me bonds that I’ll cherish for life. In 6th grade my family had me choose to participate in either basketball, cheerleading, or volleyball and I reluctantly chose the latter, and although I initially disliked the sport I quickly came to love volleyball. In 7th and 8th grade I joined club volleyball to prepare for high school. Honestly I wasn’t the best player and my mentality was weak and I often got frustrated. So I work hard to meet and adapt to my team’s needs; I’ve played a starting position in freshman, sophomore, and junior year on the varsity volleyball team thus far. I understand the importance of balancing academics and athletics, and I have always strived to excel in both areas. Recognizing that true greatness emerges from hard work, I have consistently pushed myself by always attending practices, conditioning workouts, non-mandatory practices, and team bonding as well. I value open and honest communication. I firmly believe that understanding and empathizing with my teammates' strengths and weaknesses is key to achieving collective success. I seek opportunities to uplift my teammates, offering encouragement, and providing as well as receiving constructive feedback to help us all grow as athletes and individuals. Volleyball has taught me the importance of fair play, respect, and humility. I know that success is not measured solely by victories or accolades but by the positive impact we have on those around us and from what we learned from an experience.
I believe that I can contribute to the competitive environment of your esteemed institution. I eagerly look forward to the opportunity to bring my skills, character, and dedication to your volleyball program. Thank you for taking the time to read my statement
