Personal Statement

Hello,

My name is Amanda Kirby Scardino, I am currently attending Woodside High School in Woodside, California.  I will be graduating in 2020.  I live with my parents Brent & Tammy, and my older brother Matthew.  I went to St Pius School in Redwood City, Ca kindergarten through eighth grade.  I started playing volleyball in fourth grade and was coached by my parents who also played volleyball.  I also played other sports but I knew volleyball would be my true passion.

My dream is to someday earn a college degree and play volleyball to the very best of my ability and capacity.  In order to accomplish this goal, I realize it will take a lot of hard work and dedication.  I have learned through my parents a dedicated work ethic, and know I can accomplish both and more! I work very hard to excel in the classroom.  Through my high school years, hopefully my experiences both on and off the court will help me make a smooth transition to the college level.

I will be starting my ninth year of volleyball playing my second year of High School Varsity.  I have also played five years of Power Club Volleyball 13’s through 17’s and of course looking forward to 18’s this year.  I play outside hitter and have played all around throughout the years.  I have been awarded MVP, Most Inspirational, and Max Preps Player of the Match.  I have been honored with the role of team captain on both my club and high school teams.  I have played and participated at multiple camps throughout the years including; Santa Clara University, San Jose State, UC Santa Cruz, Sonoma State, and Menlo College to name a few.  I have absolutely enjoyed working with Red Rock Volleyball supporting clinics and coaches as a part time job for the last two years as well.  I have always looked to improve my strength and conditioning by working out at least four times a week in the gym.

I enjoy competition and want to be challenged at the highest level so I can gain experience for future matches and implement strategies that will not only benefit my performance but help the team win! I am a player that is coachable and wants to continually learn to become a better person and volleyball player.  I will be looking for a school that has a strong academic advisory program that is interested in my academic success.

Outside of volleyball I have additional passions and responsibilities.  This summer while working the volleyball clinics I also worked in a Healthcare Internship working with patients.  I have enjoyed Drama and participated in seven school Musicals throughout the years and even earned a drama scholarship.  Academically I have been awarded each year such honors as Principal List, Honor Roll, Merit Roll, Scholar Athlete Award, and have been a member of California Scholarship Federation since my freshmen year.

I am very confident in all my skills and feel I can impact your program immediately.  I am flexible to play anywhere in the country.  Thanks for giving me this opportunity to share my personal statement.

Amanda Kirby Scardino, Woodside High School, CA, Class of 2020
