Hi! My name is Lily Berry and I am a class of 2027 setter/opposite. I started playing volleyball in 5th grade, mainly because a few other girls I knew were doing it as well. I had been involved in team sports before, but since volleyball is so driven by communication, I was able to bond with my teammates in ways that weren’t possible in previous sports. I began to build more self confidence and learned to collaborate with other girls on my team. Once I got to high school, learning how to balance volleyball and academics proved to be an essential skill. Going to practice helped to take my mind off of academic stresses and build my passion for the sport.
I would love to continue playing volleyball in college, as it has already helped me grow as an athlete and a person. Though volleyball has always been on my mind, for this next step in my life, I am looking to find an interest to study in school and continue throughout my life. While considering my career path for the future, I knew I wanted to do something involving working in a team setting where I could communicate ideas with others while still pursuing my passions.
Aside from volleyball, I have always loved to travel. A future career of mine should ideally include the ability to explore and see the world. I found this in marketing, more specifically social media marketing. It would give me the opportunity to follow my dream of traveling the world, yet also supporting me in the future. One of the aspects of marketing that has always intrigued me is consumer behavior and trends. This led to my interest in psychology in order to study how producers can influence consumerism. Although I have this plan in mind for my future, I am still open to finding different career paths and discovering new majors that interest me.
