My name is Makenzie Wilson, and I live in a small town, Ruidoso, New Mexico. I am a freshman this year and this is my first year to be a setter. I am currently on the Freshman and JV team for Ruidoso High School. On our freshman team we run a 5-1 and on our JV team we run a 6-2 and sometimes a 5-1. I really love volleyball and will dedicate my time to get better every day. Education, Volleyball and Student Council are all very important to me and I have learned to balance all 3 and to do the best I can in all 3 areas. As a setter I have learned to understand that I must have court awareness and be quick on my feet and use my voice at all times. I still have a lot to learn as a setter and will continue to do so with practice, volleyball camps, and getting the opportunity to play club volleyball as well. As I strive to continue to improve and do my best in all aspects I hope to get into a good college, as I wish to study to be a medical examiner and hopefully continue to play the sport I love, Volleyball.
When I was younger, I had a few injuries which resulted in some broken bones at different times, and the most difficult injury was when I broke my right hip, a freak accident, but I managed to keep a positive mindset and stay grounded. I continued to work on my strengths, goals, and with physical therapy I am back on my feet and continuing to stay active and not letting any previous broken bones hold me back. I understand that unexpected things happen in life and that I am resilient. I am glad I get the opportunity to play volleyball and will continue to work hard, grow, and have fun while playing the sport I love.
