For 11 years, martial arts laid the foundation for who I am, but wrestling has truly shaped me. Achieving a 3rd degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do and becoming a certified martial arts instructor taught me resilience, discipline, and the value of mentorship. However, it is wrestling that taught me the hard lessons about the dual nature of teamwork and individuality. As part of a team, I share the camaraderie and collective drive, but when I step onto the mat, I am all alone. It is up to me, my preparation, my mindset and my determination to win. Every match is a test of my willpower and self reliance, pushing me to dig deeper and fight harder.
Beyond the mat, I’ve found acceptance while participating in mentoring with and for other teenage boys, using my experience to connect with them on their own paths. My journey has instilled in me a relentless drive to excel, and I am eager to take my wrestling and life experiences to the next level in college. I am committed to harnessing the lessons of the mat-strength, perseverance, and self- reliance—to propel me toward a future of continued growth and achievement.
