Winning the European Championship my freshman year really turned my life around and made me realize I was capable of wrestling at the collegiate level. However, my dreams were quickly changed when I traveled to the National High School Coaches Association Nationals at Virginia Beach and did not place. I knew I had to change my character and work ethic going into my sophomore year. As I won my second European title, I still lacked something to get me to the next level and become an All-American at the National Tournament.
The biggest obstacle I overcame in my high school career, thus far, happened at the Baden Wurrtemberg Men's Freestyle State Championships. My first match woke me up as I was beat by tech. I was extremely upset with my lack of performance and knew I could do better. The tournament was set up in a pool and I was able to pin my next opponent from Iran and win the semi-finals against an Afghani man. I crossed over to the finals and overcame my first defeat to win the State Championships against a German man.
Throughout my career I have been lucky enough to be part of great teams. I know I have grown ethically and physically and I am ready to compete at the collegiate level. I am a two sport athlete and have had the honor of being a captain of our varsity wrestling team since my sophomore year. I know that I still have a lot more to learn and I have what it takes to help your team as a wrestler, leader, and person.
