My name is Kevin Birmingham and I am a high school scholar athlete in the sport of wresting and I am hoping to continue to wrestle when I attend college. I am a hard worker and dedicated to my sport as I have been wrestling since I was 5 years old and at this time practice 5-6 days a week, both during season and also after the season has ended. Besides having a good work ethic, I consider myself a leader, both on and off the mat. This coming year I will be the only Junior Captain on the team and I have been class president all three years of high school. This past year I was selected to be one of two students from my school to particpate in New Jersey Boys State. I have not yet decided on my actual choice of curriculum for college, but believe it will either be in the area of accounting or finance, or possibly engineering. While I prefer to be close enough to home for an occasional visit, I recognize and understand that could be limited by my participation in wrestling at the collegiate level and am willing to accept that. I am not limiting my choices of colleges to a division level or type, as I want to keep all my options open. I am principally looking to get the best education possible while continuing to pursue my dream of wrestling at the college level.I am an above average student and have taken honors or AP classes all three years of high school. My GPA is currently at 4.1 heading towards my senior year. I have had very good success on the mat my first two years wresling varsity and completed another good year, even though i jumped 3 weight classes. I also am on target to break the all time win record for my high school before the end of my senior year, but while this would be a great individual accomplishment, I am looking forward to helping lead and or drive my team to once again become be the South Jersey Group III champions, for the next two years.
I finished 3rd in Region 8 and went 1-2 at the state tournament. I recently competed in the Junior Nationals and was the round before placing. I finished my junior year with 93 career wins against 18 losses. I was asked to wrestle for Team New Jersey in the NWCA Duals in Indiana on April 16-17. July 3-4 I wrestled in the NHSCA National Open Tournament, I went 5-1 taking third place.
