Personal Statement
Hello coach, my name is Ben O’Connell, one of many college baseball hopefuls. I hope that when you read this statement you will believe that I am different from the rest.
The position I play which is catcher completely reflects on who I am as a person, I am a hard worker and a leader regardless of my age. I’m a competitor who does anything to help his team win, whether I’m in the game or not. I’m always a team player and never put myself before any of my teammates. At the same time I try to have as much fun as I can playing the game, which is something I still believe I can improve upon. Everyday I try to better myself and work towards reaching my goal of playing college baseball at the highest level possible.
As for my physique, I am 6’0 and 170 pounds of pure athleticism. I am working extremely hard to get stronger and prepare for the physical toll that the collegiate level will take.
Behind the dish I’m an animal, I don’t let anything past me and am exceptionally good at helping the pitcher get strikes, my footwork is clean and I have developed a strong arm from a throwing program over the past months dropping my pop time from a 2.3 to as low as a 2.02. I am ranked as the 19th catcher in New England in my class and the 113th overall player in my class by Prep Baseball Report.
My best asset I can bring in to your program is my hit tool. I always go up to the plate with a vision of what pitch I want to hit and where I want that pitch to be. I am good at getting the barrel on the ball and driving it into the gaps. I have a tee exit velocity of 85 MPH and look to improve upon that to drive more balls out of the park.
I take the same effort and intensity that I have on the diamond and bring that into the classroom, I take all honors classes and expect nothing lower than a B in all of them. To sum up, I believe I have what it takes to contribute at the next level and I can’t thank you enough for reading this and I would be extremely delighted to play for your program.
Sincerely,
Ben O'Connell
