A huge turning point in my life was in sophomore year. Up until my freshman year, school and the material taught have always come easy to me. But high school brought more work and more in-depth concepts that I was not used to. It took some time to adapt, and I'm continuing to better myself.
Sophomore year hit me very hard. My grades fluctuated a lot. I didn't participate in the club spring season so I could spend more time working on my academics. A few months prior in October of 2018, I had a knee injury that rendered me inactive for the remainder of that high school season and the beginning of the club winter season. Spending so much time watching my team rather than playing with them left me a lot of time to, not only improve academically, but also reflect on my field hockey career. Within that time, I came to the realization that I had been taking my time and opportunity as a player for granted. I entered the next season with a more grounded, stronger, more confident mindset than before. I set personal goals of improvement and achievement, as well as goals with my teammates (defensively not letting the ball past a certain point, becoming conference champions, state champions, etc.). I've promised myself that I would become a more coachable, hardworking student-athlete, whether it was in the classroom or on the field.
