Dear Prospective Coach:
My parents enrolled me in football at the age of 4 because I had so much energy. Little did they know what a service they would do for me. The game of football has been there for me through the ups and downs of life and has taught me discipline and given me the drive to persevere through school and the obstacles that I have had to face.
You ask, who is Donavin Davis? He is a man of high moral character shaped by his parents, God, coaches and family. I have been a team captain for 3 years because of my character and my belief in hard work. I don’t give a 100%. I give 210 % every time, and I believe I have helped shape my team’s work ethic and drive. I have been blessed to start on both sides of the ball, at safety, corner, and wide receiver, since the first game of my sophomore year. Even though I played those positions as my main focus, I also stepped in and played running back and other positions when needed. I have learned nearly all of the positions on the field and have been a utility player at South Charleston. That versatility is what I offer a college that is willing to take chance on a man who doesn’t give up and will give you 210% every time. I may not be the most talented on the field during the game, but I promise I will outwork everyone on the field.
When I started high school, we had very few upperclassman. We were a young team and therefore took many beatings. But we didn’t give up, and we were predicted to do very well this year, my senior season. Then COVID happened. Many student athletes took time off, but I did not. I worked out twice a day and went from 165 pounds to 185. I also started my own lawncare business in my wonderful community of Dunbar, WV. Through this experience I have found a love of business. My goal is to continue playing the sport I love, football, in college while obtaining a business degree.
I appreciate you taking the time to read this letter, and I welcome the chance to talk with you so that you can get to know me. I promise you will not regret giving me an opportunity to be a part of your team and community.
