Personal Statement
"And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us," Hebrews 12:1b
In heeding Paul's exhortation, I have striven to persevere and dedicate myself to all that I do. Athletically, I have started as point guard for our school's varsity team since eighth grade. Using my strengths in shooting, passing, and perimeter defense, I hold several school records, including the shooting circuit 15/20 and 1 minute drill, as well as leading the team my sophomore year in three point shots, assists, and I came in second for steals.
I began playing basketball at an early age, even earning a spot on an all-star team in middle school. Beginning as a freshman, I dedicated myself to physical conditioning, following a strict schedule to improve my athletic ability, demonstrating my striving for excellence. My natural leadership displays itself in confidence on and off the court and is evident in the awards I have earned: 2018 and 2020 offensive player of the year (varsity), 2018 middle school MVP, and 2019 Impact Player, voted on by my teammates and coaches. Academically, I retain this perseverance in my strenuous workload including multiple honors courses. In college, I plan to maintain my high GPA while exploring my interests in exercise science. I also served on my school's mock trial team, helping them to win the national championship in 2019.
I pride myself on being a continuous student of the game of basketball. I have proven to be extremely coachable, and I thrive on constructive criticism. As a student from a smaller school, I'm extremely excited about broadening my basketball experience in college. Basketball has allowed me to exhibit my naturally competitive spirit. I also learned that my ability to adapt quickly on the court translates into other aspects of life, preparing me to attend a wide variety of colleges. I look forward to using my strong work ethic in supporting my future college team.
