My name is Karson Gabrel and I am a Senior shooting/combo guard at The Village High School in Houston, Texas. Basketball is my passion. I love everything about this game and would like nothing more than to play it at the highest level. Basketball is more to me than just a sport. It is a way of connecting with others that have the same interests and love of the game as I do. No matter who you are or where you come from you have something in common. A connection and respect for one another whether it is with a coach, a teammate or an opponent. Basketball is a highly competitive action pact game of teamwork in which the success of the team depends upon each and every member in order to be successful. The opportunity to compete, the relationships that you develop…the chance to belong to something bigger than yourself…this is just a few of the reasons why I love playing basketball. I understand that given an opportunity to compete at such level will be extremely challenging and will require a tremendous amount of hard work, commitment, and dedication on my part. I am up for the challenge, and look forward to finding the right school and program where I can excel as a student, an athlete, and as a teammate.
- Academically speaking I am a very well-rounded student that enjoys working independently and in groups. I attended a very rigorous private school during part of my elementary and middle school years therefore I am no stranger to balancing a heavy workload. As a result of this early foundation my study skills, prioritization and problem-solving abilities have become key strengths I have developed which have helped me tremendously as a student athlete. Growing up citizenship and leadership has also been a strong character trait that has been instilled in me early on by my parents and grandparents. As a basketball player I am a very coachable well rounded athlete with a strong basketball IQ/feel for the game. My three-point shooting is my strongest skill, but not the only weapon I have in my arsenal. I have a strong work ethic and am committed to improving in all areas of my game. I have been described by many of my coach’s as a “Gym Rat,” and take advantage of every opportunity to improve as an athlete. I am a very honest and respectable person who is fully committed to my teammates and dedicated to the success of the team/program.
- My very 1st AAU Coach, Coach Watts use to always say 1%. Every day or each time you come to practice strive to be better than you were before you came in! Coach Watts use to always say if you can be just 1% better than the day before then you have made improvement, and before you know it if you continue to work hard and push yourself your game will improve and eventually your game will be something you can be proud of. In order to do that I believe I can never let myself be satisfied with where I’m at as a player. I need to always be pushing myself to improve in all areas of the game. I have to always be willing to put in the work I need to do for the results I want to achieve. Although I want to be a lot better than 1% when I leave the gym each day I understand that it’s about the process and commitment as much as believing in myself. I believe my work ethic, commitment, dedication to my teammates and the program is what sets me apart from other players.
- My goal is to play at the highest level possible. I am open to location, but I want to find a school that is the right fit academically and athletically. I am looking for a college with solid academics and a competitive basketball program that provides me with the best opportunity to improve as a player while utilizing my skills for the best interest of the team’s success. Academically, I am undecided on my college major, but am interested in Business, Computer Science, and Law. I have a strong work ethic both in the gym and in the classroom. I am a good student and teammate and would be an asset to your program. I hope to hear from you soon should you believe I would be a good fit for your organization. Thank you for your time and consideration.
Best Regards,
Karson Gabrel
