My name is Ryan Vaughan. I am a junior at The Harker School, in San Jose CA
In my last ten tournaments, my average score was 77, but in my last five tournaments my average score dropped to 75.
As my late growth spurt is coming to an end, I feel my decision to drop soccer and focus solely on golf for the final two years of high school will help me improve enough to reduce my average score to 71-73, by graduation, which may allow me to make an immediate impact on your golf team.
Here's why I feel I will be a good addition to your team:
Balancing golf and academics at college must be challenging, but I feel I will be well prepared: My high school is ranked 2nd nationally for SAT/ACT scores and 1st nationally in 5 different AP test scores. My current GPA is 3.8 (see attached transcript). My SAT II Math Level 2 score was 780. I take the ACT in October, but my last practice test was a 31. My college-like curriculum includes 5 AP classes, which has forced me to learn and practice good time management skills. The students at Harker are some of the brightest in the country, which makes getting a high GPA difficult and the longer school day and heavy work load cuts into my practice time, which makes it harder to lower my scores, but ultimately, I feel I will be more prepared for college and professional golf.
After playing golf, soccer, football, and basketball, I have excelled as a teammate:
I have never missed a practice for any of my teams - ever - not because I have to go but because I want to go. I received the coach's award every year for every one of my teams, because I respectfully listen. I am used to competing for my spot on the team. I do not expect any guarantees.
I feel that I have significant upside potential - good academic training from a college-like school, late growth spurt that affected my current scores, still growing (should hit 6' to 6' 2"), long game is dramatically improving (driver has gone from 245 to 270 this year), and my new full time focus on golf should continue to improve my scores.

I shot 6 over 77 to finish 30th out of 54 golfers. One great stretch of 4 birdies over 5 holes is something I can build on for next tournament. My team finished 6th out of the 1550 high schools in California and I was the number one player on the team as well as MVP of our league. Great season!

NorCal High School Championship
5/23/16 to 5/23/16
I led my team with a 1-over score at the NorCal Championship and my team advanced to the State Championship at San Gabriel Country Club next week. I finished tied 11th out of 95 players. My score was good enough to qualify for the State Championship as an individual even if my team would not have advanced. We are really excited because this is the farthest any boys sports team has advanced in Harker high school history.
