Until 2 years ago I had never rowed, and I didn't know anything about the sport. I had a difficult freshman season. I only made 3V. I struggled with putting it all together. I thought a lot about how to improve over the summer between my freshmen and sophomore year. I attended a summer camp for sculling, and I decided to try a fall club. I continued to make progress, which only made me want to work harder and get faster. It worked. By early Spring, I dropped my 2k time below 7. By late Spring, my time was 6:45.8. At the end of the season I was recognized for my determination, hard work, and humor when I received the coaches award.
This year, I am excited to keep challenging myself and to keep getting faster. My goal for my junior year is a sub 6:40 2k.
I have learned a lot about myself through rowing. I've learned that I really like working on a team with others to achieve a goal together. I have also learned that I have tremendous grit and determination. I want to continue this growth in college.
