Personal Statement

For me one of the most important part of playing soccer is trying to better myself and helping improve the players around me. Also, a part of doing that is being on time and being early for practices. Being early allows me to interact with coaches so I can improve on my abilities, and learn how I can help my teammates create better opportunities. No matter what the drill is or playing a position I normally don’t play I enjoy the challenge and the ability to play.  I have played soccer since I was 4 years old and have enjoyed the opportunity to play for recreation, travel, competitive, high school and coach a U6 team.

  • 1/26/17 Francis Marion University Men’s Soccer ID Camp Evaluation: CHARLES NAME Charles has a tremendous passion for the game, it shows in his attitude, (always has a smile on his face) his work rate and his thirst for information. Charles gives 100% every second he is on the pitch, he is willing to work hard on both sides of the ball and is coachable. Always asking what he can do better and how he can improve. Having known Charles for a couple of years now it has been refreshing to see his improvement. Couple of years ago he and I spoke about what he needs to do to improve and take the next steps as a player. Fitness was one as well as simplifying his game and learning to play quicker. Charles came back to camp this year and improved all those areas! I didn’t want him to lose his flare for the game, which he certainly has and isn’t afraid to try on the pitch, but needed Charles to learn when to be tricky and when to play quickly. He has improved greatly here. There is still room to grow in this area but Charles has shown he is well on his way and just needs to continue with his progression. The other concern I had with Charles to continue his growth as a player was his fitness. Again it was obvious to see the work he has put in to become leaner and fitter which has improved his ability to be at his best on the pitch for longer. Technique and mental decisions diminish quickly as we get tired and Charles has shown he can go much longer at a higher level because of the hard work he has put in. Charles has impressed me with his overall attitude, love of the game and willingness to learn and improve while enjoying the game he loves. I have no doubts Charles can and will be an asset to any team he is on and eventually do the same for a college program in a couple years down the road if that is where his passion leads him. It’s been a pleasure as always to work with Charles and I look forward to seeing his continued growth on the pitch. John Campbell Head Men’s Soccer Coach Francis Marion University

  • To Whom It May Concern: I would like to write a letter on behalf of Charles “Mac” Name in regards to his leadership, sportsmanship, and overall athletic abilities. I was Mac’s soccer coach this past season for FSA U16 boys team. When considering Mac as a soccer player I think of somebody who has a passion for the sport and is versatile in his abilities. More importantly, as a player he is extremely coachable and displays a positive attitude on the field and off. Mac’s club soccer resume can speak volumes about his ability to play at a high level. He plays competitively on the field with players at very high levels, which enables him to compete against the best in his age group in the surrounding area. On my team he showed a strong ability to adapt to different positions, was poised under pressure situations, and has a knack for being a strong defensive or offensive player. Mac can be an offensively sound center back, or the “goto” player to take a free shot on goal. His ability to play all ends of the pitch are a unique find in a high school player and a welcomed addition to any team. Mac’s assets on the soccer field are his knowledge of the game, spatial understanding, physical strength, and aggressiveness. He has a demanding presence on the field and a good touch on the ball. Even if he gets a foul called on him he knows he didn’t commit, he will accept the foul and move on. Others teams certainly take notice of him and they will either pass before they reach him, or pressure him as soon as he receives they ball, and he can usually engage 2 or 3 defenders and make a pass because HE created space for them. Mac is continually improving in his abilities on the soccer field. His willingness to take constructive criticism and work with a coach is a favorable trait that I know this young man possesses. When boys conditioning or practice was cancelled in preseason, he would come to train with me, because his desire is that high for the game. His love for the game and his teammates is evident when he plays and others look up to his as a positive example. I often relied on Mac to take free kicks in a tight situation. I highly recommend Charles “Mac” Name for consideration into your program and offer my contact information should you be interested in following up on this letter of recommendation. I wish all players, for any sport!, were more like Mac. It has been a pleasure writing this letter on Mac’s behalf and I look forward to seeing his growth as a passionate young soccer player. Sincerely, Matthew Cote’ [email protected] 843-615-8218
