Personal Statement
In my family, you learn to walk by kicking a soccer ball and Faith, Family and Futbol is our family motto. My grandfather played professionally in his country of Uruguay and passed down that passion to my father who played professionally here, in the United States. My brother played in the UIL Texas State 6A high school championship game and my sister coaches 6A high school soccer. So soccer for me is more than a passion, it is in my blood and a way of life.
My name is Roger Sanguinetti and I am a senior at Cinco Ranch High School in Katy, Texas. Last year, I stepped into a leadership position as varsity captain on the school team and achieved a national qualification on my club team in the ENPL league two years in a row. My goal is to continue to play soccer at a higher level for as long as I am physically able. I am a versatile player who has been told I am a good fit for any team because I enjoy taking on the challenge of playing anywhere on the field. Although, I believe that CDM is my strongest position, I have played everywhere on the field except goalkeeper in club, high school and ODP. I have enjoyed learning different positions and what each role does to excel in that area of the game. You will find that I am different from many other recruits because I have a vast understanding of the success that hard work can bring and I thrive on pushing myself beyond my limits. This has provided me with the ability to successfully juggle academics, high school soccer, club soccer, ODP and high school football as a kicker and punter. I was blessed to reap the reward of my dedication last summer as I was selected to the UCF ID camp All Star team, the UTRGV ID camp All Star team, the Creighton University Camp MVP and the Top 60 selection at ODP Region 3 camp. I was invited to compete at the ODP InterRegional event with the top 72 players in the United States at IMG Academy last December.
My dream is to use my passion for soccer and the skill I have honed to attend a university and acquire a degree in Sports Psychology with a minor in Coaching so that I can hope to influence others by helping them to develop their skill and passion for soccer, as I have. There have been some amazing teachers and coaches in my life who have taught me how to be my very best and strive for success in everything I do. It would be an honor and a privilege to be able to pass that experience on to others to be able to impact their future as mine has been. My goal is to achieve this by earning a spot on a university soccer team where I can contribute to the success of the team and grow as an individual athlete and as part of a top program.
