My tennis journey started a little bit later than many other players. Growing up, I was always athletic and played of a variety of different sports including basketball, baseball and soccer. It wasn't until March of my sophomore year in high school that I decided to embark on a new challenge and picked up a tennis racquet for the first time. I quickly fell in love with the sport, and despite having no prior experience, I managed to earn a spot on the varsity number one doubles team. My first season of competitive tennis was challenging to say the least, and there were definitely some bumps along the way. At the same time though, I found myself wanting to learn everything I could about this new sport and worked hard to improve my skills. By the end of my second season playing varsity number one doubles, my partner and I won the conference championship and were given all conference honors. Our team also won the conference title. This was the first time in 30 years that anyone at our school achieved this honor and is something that I am very proud of. I think this accomplishment also illustrates some of my best qualities as an athlete. I consider myself to be a very coachable athlete with a strong work ethic and love for competition. I also highly value academics and my personal faith. You will never have to worry about me in the classroom as I have always worked hard to earn excellent grades. My faith forms the foundation of my belief system, and I try to treat everyone the way that I want to be treated. My goals in college are to earn a degree in my chosen major, (I'm leaning towards engineering at the moment) and to play tennis at a high level of competition. I also want to take full advantage of the opportunities that college will provide to meet new people and become a well rounded person so I can make a positive difference in the world.
