Personal Statement
My name is CJ Richardson. There are a lot of things I could say about myself, but let’s start with the basics. I have been a leader of my high school track team and being given that role has been a major accomplishment. It meant that the coaches saw enough drive and determination in me to lead. They gave me the opportunity to be in a position where others could look up to me, to portray what they wanted the rest of the team to strive to be. Each day I am propelled to influence my teammates in a positive way. I am good listener, a team player and most importantly, I lead by example. Being a leader puts you in the spotlight and it comes with a lot of responsibilities, which I take very seriously even moreso being a senior. I appreciate my teammates wanting to run like me. I endeavor to take the initiative to help others around me to be successful, when I see people down, I try to uplift them in any way I can.
Track and Field has always been a part of my family; and as far back as I can remember, I would always speed everywhere. My family would always echo "It's in your veins CJ". I never actually looked at it that way, I was just being CJ so to speak. I started taking track seriously a few years back and that's when the idea of college came to mind. I knew that in order for me to maximize my full potential, I would have to compete at a higher level.
I would love the opportunity to do track in college. I believe I have the ability to be one of the best sprinters through hard work and dedication. I would also be able to get an excellent education while doing something I love. I have a strong work ethic and I am willing to learn and to do what it takes to be a student athlete. I am open-minded and eager to jumpstart what could be the chance of a lifetime. I know that nothing in life comes easy, going to college and being a part of a track program is a privilege not a right.
My ultimate goal is to enhance my knowledge and skills, and to become the best version of myself. If given the opportunity, I am willing to do whatever it takes to succeed physically and academically.
