Personal Statement
My Junior year at Salem Central is off to a strong start, with my goal to be the best athletic and academic candidate for admission to a school that meets my needs. Because of my love for the game, I want to continue to play softball in college; softball has been a passion of mine since I was old enough to swing a bat, which is about as long as I can remember. This will be my 4th year playing Varsity softball for Salem High School as well as my 4th year with Adirondack Xtreme (Gold this year), which is a year round commitment. Prior to 14u/16u-18u with Xtreme I also played for the Southern Vermont Bat Brats (12u) and the Battenkill Bombers (14u). I enjoy competing and being on the field and I LOVE winning. I'm a very fierce competitor! Primarily, I am a catcher but I also play a rangy 3B as well as a bit of outfield. I've also been captain of the varsity Field Hockey and Softball teams. (I'm taking my Junior year off from Field Hockey to train for softball)
My goal is to continue to play competitive softball in a college program that is as passionate as I've always been about the sport. I am working hard to improve my on-field skills to prepare for the future but I also believe that education comes first. After an adjustment period during my Freshman year, I steadily improved my grades after acclimating to the high school regimen in my Sophomore year, finishing my 4th quarter with a 90+ average. I'm striving to continue to improve in my junior year and have made the high honor roll in my first two quarters. With softball and college in mind I've been thinking a lot about my future interests: at this time they are sports psychology and education but I do like forensics and several other programs. Sports psychology is of particular interest right now because I would love to someday coach my own softball team and I've learned the importance of the "mental game." However, I do realize that I have plenty of time to make my career decisions and that new experiences could change my educational path.
