My name is Josalyn Netzel and I am a 2026 Graduate who attends McNary High School in Keizer, Oregon. Softball has been a major part of my life since I was 8 years old and from the beginning, I set a goal to play at the collegiate level. I am currently putting in the work, both on and off the field, to achieve that goal. I have always felt that goals are more attainable if you have passion for what you are doing and my passion for the game of softball continues to grow daily as my skills and knowledge improve.
I have a great work ethic; I am positive, and I am coachable. My team is very important to me, and I do everything I can to try and encourage them and to be a leader on and off the field. I have great framing and blocking skills and I am a strong power hitter with a high softball IQ.
Softball has taught me many lessons that transfer to my daily life. One of the most important things I go by is, “Stay Humble, Stay Hungry.” My dad introduced me to this saying as my skills improved because maintaining a good character is important in sports and in life. Even if you are good at what you do you still need to have a good attitude towards everyone and always strive to improve.
Even though my true passion is softball, I also love weightlifting. Being able to PR on a lift you have been working on is like tagging the runner out at home or hitting one over the fence. It doesn’t happen every time, but when it does you feel a sense of pride in your accomplishment. Not only do I strive to be a good athlete on the field, I also stive to be the best student I can in the classroom. I maintain a 4.0 GPA and I am in my school’s Leadership Class and AVID. I participate in community service such as blood drives, adopt a Celt (a program that runs every December at McNary that helps families in need provide presents for their children during the holiday times), and Living History Day (an annual event where Veterans from our community share their stories with McNary students). I also help coach younger catchers every week so that I can give back to the softball community that has done so much for me.
Thank you for taking the time to read my profile and learn a little bit about me!
