My name is Taylor Stevens and I am very creative, humorous but also serious. Since I was a little girl, I have participated in several sports: dance, soccer, gymnastics, horseback riding… I liked them; I was pretty good but not great. While it was fun to participate in these activities, I never felt like I was excelling. Then I went to a hockey game. The more I learned about hockey, the more excited I became. I fell in love with hockey.
After getting involved with the sport, I discovered I could be better than just good. The sport required learning new skills, huge commitment, and hard work. I enjoy the fast pace, the excitement of winning, and the constant drive to improve. These days I spend my time practicing hockey, studying, riding my bike, sledding, drawing and painting. By continuing to search for and try new activities even when it meant moving on without my friends, I found a sport I truly love. It has made such a difference in my life (and I gained a hockey family)!
I am a hard worker and take every opportunity seriously, on and off the ice. I can’t wait to see what new opportunities await me in the future. I believe I have a choice about how I react to what happens to me. I take charge of what I do and where I am going. I’d rather get up and keep trying than sit down and dwell on things I didn’t achieve. As Suzy Toronto says, “Maybe today's struggles are developing tomorrow's strengths. Falling down is rarely our choice but staying down is”.
