My name is Veronica Smith, a central defender and formerly a midfielder and defensive midfielder from Colchester, Connecticut graduating in 2025. I am #33 for Oakwood Soccer Club on their 2007 Girls Academy team. In the Fall, I play soccer for Bacon Academy High School wearing #15, where I have been a four year varsity starter. In the Winter, I play basketball for Bacon Academy High School, where I have been a four year varsity player and recently named Captain.
I have had many success in my soccer career. Including a 2024 ECC Division 1 Tournament Championship were I was named Most Outstanding Player of the Game by the Conference Tournament Officials, and Player of the Game by the News Outlet covering the game, a 2024 Conference Title, and a 2023 State Championship to name a few. As the defensive Captain this year for Bacon Academy my defense and I only surrendered 4 goals throughout the regular season and post season.
Over my 11 years of playing soccer I have developed my skill sets playing anywhere from central midfielder, defensive center midfielder, to center back. As I grew in height, strength and speed I learned how to utilize those skills to my advantage, ultimately landing me as a dominant center back. I have worked hard to become very effective at winning headers in the box offensively and defensively, running down and beating strikers to win the ball, as well as using my quickness, strength and positioning to shield the ball, win 50/50 plays, and impose my will on attackers.
I have the same drive and ambition in the classroom, which is one of the reasons why I am looking forward to continuing my soccer career at the collegiate level. I am humble but also competitive. I am respectful of my teammates but also motivate them to work hard as a unit. I know a lot about playing the game of soccer but know there is more to learn. I will give my all to whichever college I end up attending and I look forward to college and college soccer helping me to further build upon my current leadership skills and to enable me to reach even greater heights in life.
