Hello, my name is Julia Lawson. I am a senior at Center Grove High School in Greenwood, Indiana. This is my fourth year as a member of our high school swim team and eleventh as a competitive swimmer on our club team, The Center Grove Aquatics Club. I am also beyond excited to start my career as a college student athlete. In college I am excited to hopefully study communications and public relations, at least that is the current plan as I am aware that I will probably end up changing that goal. Though I am excited to just get a start on figuring out those plans.
As a high school swimmer I have been blessed with a lot of great opportunities, and a good amount of success. Although it has been wonderful to just be on a team that has allowed me to grow as a person and who is always encouraging in the difficulty of swim season. I have been training and competing as a backstroker for all of my high school career. Ultimately I went a 1:02 as a sophomore in my 100 back and have been working to reach my ultimate goal of breaking a minute, something I am hoping to do by the end of this season.
Although I do spend much of time in the pool and at school my passions don't stop there. in addition to afternoon practice I help coach our youngest level of swimmers, all under the age of ten and just starting to learn the strokes. Though it is a job I enjoy getting paid for doing, it is something I like doing and am happy to spend my time there with them. In addition to teaching kids to swim, I also lead a small group of the most wonderful seventh grade girls you could ever meet. A good chunk of my time is devoted to them, helping to lead on Sunday mornings and Wednesday afternoons.
I am overjoyed at the thought of figuring out the next step in my life and can't wait to see the possibilities that lay ahead.
