Personal Statement

My name is Megan Gregory and I am a senior at Summit High School in New Jersey. I specialize in breaststroke and freestyle.

I recently decided that I want to go to college to study criminal justice/criminology. I am dyslexic and wasn't sure I wanted to continue with school since reading has been challenging for me. That said, I have always done well, which my 3.66 GPA shows. I set high standards and commit to achieving my goals. My learning differences have taught me time management and to advocate for myself when I need extra support. Swimming has always been my passion and I look forward to joining a college swim team.

Though I was a three sport athlete most of high school, swimming has always been my number one. I gave up volleyball after the season in my junior, so I could focus more on swimming. I also stopped playing club softball for the same reason.  I do plan to play softball in the spring for my high school to finish out my softball career. Since deciding to swim in college, swim is now a bigger priority than it has been in the past.

I switched club teams in June and am loving the coaching that I'm getting and I am becoming a better swimmer. On October 17, 2020 I took 1.42 off my 100 breast. Then, on November 20, I took another 1.39 off 100 breast for a best time of 1:07.20. I also took off 4.64 from my 200 breast in the November meet for a best time of 2:34.17. I had three more best times in November and swam close to my best time in 100 free (56.71). I am confident that all my times will continue to improve. I definitely want to swim for a competitive team and have set my swim goals accordingly.

When everything closed due to Covid, time in the pool was what I missed the most. Covid closures made me appreciate swimming even more than I did before. I am now even more dedicated, appreciative and eager to swim. I am looking forward to continuing to challenge myself as a swimmer and to be part of a college team.
