Personal Statement

As a three-sport athlete in high school, I have learned a lot about myself and where I want to go with the skills I have developed over these four years. Participating on basketball and softball teams is what really pushed me to join track and cross country; something that started just as conditioning for other sports soon became a passion and love for running. I am fully committed to running and look forward to competing at a collegiate level.

Early in my freshman year I learned that I had a strong interest in track and cross country; not only was I able to be a part of an amazing team, but I also got to experience self improvement. My teammates and coaches have pushed me to be the best version of myself and have taught me what it is like to compete on a high level. The small increments of success that can be achieved throughout the season allow me to continually set and work towards new goals. I have always excelled in very competitive environments in all sports.

One thing that makes running track and cross country especially enjoyable is the feeling of being able to compete while fully supporting the improvements of my teammates. We can be competitive against one another, but it is never really about who crosses the line first, we are all supportive of one another’s self-improvement and love to see each other grow as runners.

I have been a team captain for my track and cross country teams since my junior year and have learned how to expand my leadership skills on and off the trails. Being an example for, and mentoring new team members, on how to balance the demands of academics and athletics helps keep them engaged and successful.

While I take great pride in my sports accomplishments, I know that my effort in the classroom is just as important. My efforts have led to me being a member of the National Honor Society. Maintaining that balance between academics and athletics is something that needs constant attention to be successful.
