Personal Statement
I first started playing basketball when I was about 5 years old. I fell in love with the game and ever since then basketball has been a main part of my life. Right during the start of 8th grade, I began working practically non stop on my game. It was around this time I got serious about basketball. I have worked relentlessly on my skills and body since then, and my coach has commented on my improvement in such a short time.
Basketball has taught me so many things about myself and life. I have learned commitment, work ethic, and leadership. One special thing I learned from basketball is “You get what you give.” I learned this last summer when I challenged myself to accomplish the 25k Shot Club, a challenge to get up 25 thousand shots over the offseason given by our coach. I was the only player to finish this challenge, and the results were immediate, when I made 71/117 threes in our individual shooting drill.
As a freshman, I was a main contributor to a 25-6, Regional Championship team. I was the 6th man on the varsity team, and did well in the one game I started. In the offseason I shot another 27,000 jumpers.
As a sophomore, I started every game and averaged 11.6 ppg and 6 rpg with highs of 27 and 13. I finished the year as an All-State Tournament team selection and USA Today's All-USA team for Alaska.
My junior ended abruptly, like everyones, due to the virus. My team was ranked #1 in the state (20-4) and I was on pace to reach 1000 points in the state title game if we could have made it. It was still a great season. I was all conference and hope to be named all state soon. I averaged 23 points and and 8 rebounds over the last two months of the season, including three games with 7 threes.
This offseason I plan on continuing to grind and improve while playing with my AAU team and training with my HS team.
