Growing up I was taught to work harder than everyone else. Since I was the youngest child the expectations were high for me. In school when my siblings would be getting all A’s and I was struggling for B’s. I would study double the hours, go to extra help time. But for sports, it was harder. I played a lot of sports growing up. I couldn’t study how to kick a ball for soccer, or go to help time for figure skating. In all of the many sports I played, I never found one that I loved. But when I started to play volleyball, I sucked. I couldn’t pass a ball or serve. But I loved the game. I loved practicing and learning. And since I loved the game, working hard was fun. I would practice serving with anyone who would help me. I would beg my parents to practice after school in the dark and in 32 degree Connecticut weather. Over time all of these habits helped me become the player I am today. This year I am playing on a team with 18 year olds who are extremely good, rarely miss serves and their swings and passes are almost flawless. And I am 15 years old and supposed to be on their level. I love the challenge, because even though I might not be on their level this season, I know that I will become a better player for next season. Everynight, I practice hitting a balloon to try to get my wrist to snap faster. I hate jump roping but I make myself do it everyday. These are the things that will help me get to their level. I am a great volleyball player, but what makes me a better player than anyone else is that I will work harder than everyone else. I would love to continue playing and working hard. I love playing volleyball because you work as a team. It is my dream to play college volleyball because I will continue to grow my work ethic and play my favorite sport.
