Hi there! Thank you for taking the time to look at my profile! My name’s Alivia West, and I’m currently attending a junior college, Illinois Central College, in East Peoria, IL. I’m a freshman playing volleyball here, and I’m on track to getting my associates in science degree. Our team just finished up our season with a 34-13 record, and we placed 8th in the NJCAA DII national tournament in West Virginia. I had a very successful season, and I grew so much as a athlete and student at ICC. I was awarded first team all-region and 2nd team all-american for NJCAA DII. I also finished 6th in the nation for block assists (139), and 7th in the nation for block total (171). I was 18th in the nation with a .351 hitting percentage, and I was 20th for number of kills (460). (These stats can be seen on the njcaa stats page).
Volleyball has always been my number one sport. I love the energy and competitiveness that I get to experience in the sport. All of high school I participated in volleyball, basketball, and track. I have been successful in all three activities due to my height, athleticism, and drive. I've played volleyball since fifth grade, and every year I become more in love with the sport. Because I played school basketball, club volleyball was not really an option to participate in. Playing volleyball at the next level has always been a goal of mine, no matter the collegiate level. I’m so lucky to have the chance to play at a great junior college, but I definitely don’t want to be done after my two years, so I’m looking for another college that would be willing to take me in.
Volleyball has had a huge impact on my life. The sport has given me confidence, helped me grow as a student and as a leader. It has also helped me develop an understanding of how to communicate and work with others. One thing that I always bring on and off the court is hard work. I work extremely well with others, and I look forward to making new friends and life long relationships with my teammates. I put a ton of effort into my school work, and I take great pride in my grades and work ethic. Volleyball has also given me a chance to help with the younger grade school kids at my high school and college’s volleyball camp. I find working with young girls extremely rewarding, because I know that they look up to me as an example on how to be a strong, encouraging, and enthusiastic player. In addition to the camps, I’m also currently a head volleyball coach for a grade school in my area.
