Hello,
My name is Dana Schechter and I am a sophomore at Nipmuc Regional High School in Upton Massachusetts. I have been playing school and club volleyball since the seventh grade and have played on our high school varsity team since my freshman year. While my normal position is a setter, for school season our coach had asked me to swing from the right side and outside pins. This was a bit of a tough adjustment as I had never played as a hitter before, but I worked hard on my own at home and at practices to learn about the position as the season went on. I started and played as a 6 rotation hitter, and at the end of this season I came up big in moments where I needed to deliver, such as our round of 16 playoff game where I scored the last 4 points in a reverse sweep comeback win. I finished the season as a Dual Valley Conference 2nd All Star team. Playing as a hitter during the school season helped me to have a greater understanding of what a good hittable ball is to use as a setter. Learning how to hit also changed my role during this U16 club season. I play for CMASS Juniors volleyball club and have been on the top Open level team ever since U14. During this U16 club season we played a 6-2 rotation, however I played all the way around, setting out of the back row and hitting on the right side in the front row. I have been lucky enough to visit large national tournaments such as Capitol Hill Classic, and Big South this club season and will play in AAU nationals in Orlando. I also made the NERVA High Performance team, and will have the opportunity to represent the New England region at the 2022 USA Volleyball All-Star Championship in Tulsa OK this July. I also have had the honor to be placed on the AAU Champions League All-Tourney team for my efforts in our third place finish in Premier Division.
Academically, I have all A’s and am enrolled in all honors classes. I have been inducted into the National Honors Society this year for my high academic caliber and leadership qualities.
