Growing up , I was more of a basketball player than a volleyball player. Both of my parents coached basketball and my mom played professional basketball. So we were a basketball family in every stretch of the word. It wasn’t until 5th grade when my dad signed me up for parks and rec volleyball that I started playing. My love for volleyball started when I got the chance to go watch my cousin play at the national volleyball tournament in Orlando and from that moment I was hooked! It continued to grow as my high school team made deep runs in the postseason tournament. Watching my cousin and schoolmates play caused me to start envisioning myself playing in tournament games, maybe a state championship game and at the college level. I am a hard worker and I love being in the gym. I have learned many lessons from sports. The biggest lesson learned has been if you want to get better you have to work hard. That applies not only to sports but also the classroom. You might not be your best every day but you can strive to better each day. I challenge myself to be the best every time I walk on the court and into the classroom. My academics are equally important to me. My parents have always told me that academics is the gateway to future success. So I challenge myself to be better in both areas.
