Personal Statement

As a volleyball player, I realize that at first look, my stature may be a challenging consideration in the volleyball recruitment process. What I lack in inches,  however, is well made up in my court determination as a solid back row leader.   Because I attend an academically advanced K-12 private school, I was fortunate to be trained as a varsity libero, beginning three years ago, as an 8th grade middle school student.  My coach is quite tough on me, and now as a 11th grader, I understand that her coaching style has helped me become the best player possible not just for myself, but for the entire team. Over these past several years of school and club ball, I have learned to set goals for myself on the court during each game and practice situation.  I fully get that I need to be a leader and encourage my teammates, not just on the court, but off of it,  too.  I am grateful for the number of coaches who have poured into me, and have learned that with each coach's input,  an athlete gains additional perspective.  It means so much for me to have a chance to play this sport well with others who share this passion.

Academically, I hope to work in the medical profession.  Right now, I am looking in the field of cardiology.  I love math and science, and work hard as a student, and an athlete.  In time, I have faith that God will point me in the right direction in my future career and in the sport itself. In the meantime, I will strive with determination to be the best defensive player and student I can.

Thank you for your consideration.  I am very excited about what the future holds.
