Hi, my name is Allison, but most of my friends call me Allie. I have been playing volleyball since the 7th grade. I feel that volleyball is not just about winning, but about having fun and learning from our mistakes. To me, being a libero means taking on a leadership role and encouraging my teammates to do their best. I may be short, but that does not stop me from pushing myself to be the best that I can be. I also feel that being a high school or college athlete is a way to give back to the community. Growing up in a small town, I have loved getting to know our young rising athletes that participate in our summer camps. It is important for them to have positive role models to look up to. This year, I have taken on a new role as Coach for a beginner’s volleyball academy. I teach young girls the fundamentals of volleyball and the importance of teamwork. This has been not only the most rewarding experience that I have ever had but the most fun. I love that I am able to make a difference in the girls’ lives and be a positive role model for them. Seeing their abilities and confidence progress during the six weeks is very rewarding. I am excited to see their progression continue.
I not only like playing volleyball, but I also enjoy baking. I’ve been told chocolate chip cookies are my specialty. I love to paint and draw, hang out with my friends and volunteer at the local animal shelter. I also love to go kayaking with my dad. I love exploring the waters and listening for animals while also getting a tan. While working on my community service hours to receive my Confirmation, I started volunteering with the youth program each Sunday at our church. I enjoy interacting with the kids and helping them grow in their faith. I enjoy watching just about all sports, with baseball (Yankees) and football (Panthers) being my two favorites. I could talk about them for hours.
My family is very important to me. Whether it’s planning a trip to Disney or the beach with my mom or playing a game of Boardball or Spikeball all together, we love to spend time with each other. Family game night is something that I look forward to each week. My family and I are very competitive. Most weeks, we come up with a weekly workout challenge. It usually consists of who can do the most crunches, push-ups, squats, etc. in a week. One week, the challenge was push-ups, and I ended up going head to head with my brother. All week, we were back and forth, but I pulled out the win with 3500 push-ups!
Through the years, I have also learned quite a bit about vehicle maintenance. My dad has taught me how to change the oil, spark plugs and breaks on my car. Though this may not be one of my favorite things to do, I know it is a good skill to have. More importantly, it gives me time to spend with my dad.
My goal is not to go pro as a volleyball player. My goal is to bring my knowledge of physical education to teaching my future students the importance of staying active and being all around good people. I want to teach kids about sports that they will grow to love like I did. I want to become an amazing coach and teach my players to be the best athletes on and off the court.
