Personal Statement

I have been influenced by a number of people in the sport of wrestling & in my educational development. First of all, my Father, who has inspired & motivated me to strive to be the best I can be. He has been to all my wrestling tournaments and matches throughout my entire wrestling journey. Next, is my youth wrestling coach, Keith Jarrell, who first got me into the sport of wrestling in the fourth grade. Also, my family, my three sisters & Mother have supported my sports & educational goals, and are always there to motivate me during my wrestling matches. As mentioned, I began my wrestling career in fourth grade, but the level of competition was so high, that I became a bit discouraged at the advanced level of competition. After a year break from wrestling, I thought a lot about the sport, and learned a lot about myself. First of all, I learned that I loved wrestling, and I had a deep desire to get back on the mat and compete. Secondly, I knew I needed to get better, so I committed myself to wrestle year round to improve my wrestling techniques, my strength & endurance. Lastly, I learned what it takes to be a top wrestler, a lot of mat time, a lot of running, a lot of lifting, a lot of dedication, and a lot of listening to my coaches. I first started my fifty plus match seasons in the seventh grade. That was the year everything changed. I absolutely loved wrestling, and wanted to wrestle in as many tournaments as possible, and I did. Including the off season tournaments, I wrestled about 50 matches a year in 7th & 8th grade. With my success at the Modified level, the High School Varsity coaches quickly placed me on the High School Varsity Team as a Freshman.  Currently, during and after the High School season, I have a combined match total of around 100 matches per year. Although I started my youth wrestling a bit later than most of the States top wrestlers, I have caught up to many of the top ranked wrestlers in New York State. My ability to listen & learn has risen me up through the ranks every year as I am one step closer to my high school goal, which is to place in the High School State Wrestling Tournament.  Academically my goal in high school is to further my learning in the field of Engineering, and maintain my GPA of 4.0. My collegiate goals are to compete at a higher competition level, to further develop my skills in wrestling. I am a student athlete, so I give my all to compete on the mat and in the classroom. Also I like to learn, so I will excel in the educational part of college. I am different because I am willing to continually change, and I always appreciate the teachings & advice in all aspects of my wrestling, my education & in life.
