Personal Statement
My name is Emma Tanski and I am a sophomore at Florida State University School, aka Florida High in Tallahassee, Florida. I believe that with determination and hard work I can accomplish anything I set my mind to. Volleyball is my passion and I play both indoor and beach. I love being physically active. As a freshman, I competed in the 2015 Florida High School Fitness Challenge against all grade levels and came home with 1st Place Female Athlete. I have been working out with a strength and agility trainer since the summer of 2015 and have increased my vertical 5 inches. While I may only be 5’6” I can jump as high as the tallest girls on my travel team. I made the varsity volleyball team as a Freshman. I am a good student and have strong leadership skills. I was on the JV soccer team 2014-2015 where I received both the Coaches Award and the Scholar Athlete Award. I did ballet for 12 years and pointe for 3 years. My long term goal is to goto college and to pursue a degree in orthoscopic medicine. I want to help people with scoliosis or athletes in general. I have scoliosis and have had to wear a back brace at night for 4 years. The doctors tell me that I could have been 3 inches taller if it wasn't for the scoliosis. I found out about the scoliosis at the same time I found volleyball. The doctors told me that I may avoid surgery by staying physically active and by wearing my brace. Since then I have put in countless hours of training, and have worked hard at staying strong and healthy. I have taken advantage of every opportunity available in order to become a better athlete and most importantly a better person. I am a good team mate and am very honest and a sincere person.
