My name is Kelsey Christensen and my primary position is setter but I also play opposite hitter. I am a sophomore at Shawnee Mission East and am thrilled to have made my high school’s junior varsity team. I also am a member of the 16’s 2 team with the KC Twisters volleyball club. My first time playing volleyball was for my school team in the 6th grade and although the season was a little rough I knew it was a sport I wanted to continue playing. Every time I get on the court I set a goal for myself which is to leave the gym as a better player and team member. When playing volleyball or any sport, I know that attitude is just as important as athletic ability. I believe this way of thinking has helped me show leadership on the court and is one of the reasons I was my high school coach’s pick for team captain this year and last year. Being a team captain has given me a sense of responsibility that I’ve noticed has also carried over into my academics and everyday activities. I pride myself on being able to stay positive even when losing, and whether it’s to make a play or boost the team’s morale, I am always talking and leading while on the court. I love playing volleyball even when I don’t win (although the wins obviously help). I am looking for a college that can help me reach success in academics and athletics.
