Hi. My name is Gabriella Black (I go by Gabby) and I will be a 2021 graduate and am the starting setter for Granville High School in Granville, Ohio. I am very passionate about volleyball!! I love everything about it, especially setting as I feel like I am good at making quick decisions and it also allows me to enjoy other aspects in the game like defense, hitting, and blocking. My coaches have said I'm very coachable, that I listen well and take the information they are giving me and make myself better.
Some of my strengths include dedication, my work ethic and my competitiveness. I am excited for every practice and pride myself on my hard work. I am always the first one to practice and work my hardest in every practice to get better. My goal for practice is to come out better, even if it's just 1%, than when I went in, because if I left practice and did not get better, then I didn't work hard enough.
I also work very hard outside of practice. I am very grateful and lucky that my mother is willing to pay for extra lessons and speed, strength, and agility training so I can improve my game. Even though I am competitive (I so love to win), I still like to have fun when I'm on the court. When my teammates make a mistake, I try to build them up. When I make a mistake, I am able to shake it off and get right back in the game. It doesn't get in my head, in fact, it makes me look forward to the next ball to come to me so I can show what I can do.
On a more personal note, I have 3 siblings (including a twin sister) and up until high school I also played basketball and softball and, believe it or not, a couple years of flag football. I also LOVE beach volleyball!! I try and play in a few tournaments each year and go to beach training. I also help deliver meals on Thanksgiving to those who cannot leave their homes. My family vacations every year in the summer on Pelee Island in Canada and, outside of volleyball, it's my favorite thing to do.
