Personal Statement

"Golf is an individual sport", to me is a misnomer.  Everything is a team sport.  Whether it's my parents, my coaches, my teammates and even my sibling, my style of golf has always involved others.  This is why I look forward to the college golf experience.  Some athletes are built to excel as lone wolves, others dominate when they run as a pack.  I'm the latter.

  • 1st WIN of 2021 at my season opener. Won the tournament with a 5-under 139 under blustery conditions in round 1. Tight finish on the back 9 where I needed a 5 foot birdie to win on 18. Great start to the season. https://ijga.bluegolf.com/bluegolf/ijga21/event/ijga211/contest/1/leaderboard.htm

  • Finished 23 out of 65, shooting 79-76-78. By far, the hardest test of golf I have thus far experienced in tournament golf. Missed greens meant working hard for even a bogey and many times I found myself looking at double in those instances. Bailouts were questionable and great shots were often times penal due to the incredibly difficult green complexes. I was happy I got to experience this tournament. I learned so much on this one. In R3, I attacked the golf course and tried not to play too much defense. As expected, I made 5 birdies but also make some big numbers. I learned more about the timing of when to be aggressive and when to be cautious. This course definitely tested that. Great experience on a very competitive college golf course.
  • Camp/Event
  • HONDA JUNIOR CLASSIC
  • 1/02/21 to 1/04/21
  • Finished T13 out of 81 with 75-77 at the famous Champion course at PGA National. My wedge game continued to plague me but made up for it with great driving and long iron tee shots and approaches. I was happy with my performance but not thrilled. Played the Bear Trap at +1 for the tournament and for me was not the hardest stretch of golf. #'s 11-13 gave me the most trouble. Nevertheless, I made some huge progress with my routine and planning of shots at this tournament.
  • Camp/Event
  • HJGT @ PGA NATIONAL
  • 12/26/20 to 12/27/20
  • Finished solo 3rd (75-77) on the Fazio Course at PGA National. This tournament tested my wedge game as I was left with many awkward numbers on many of my approaches. I continue to drive it better and better and found weaknesses in my wedge and putting. As a northerner playing in Florida, reading and playing grain continues to challenge me. Although my scoring was OK, I was not thrilled with how I played. I feel like I let this one go. Too many unforced errors and poor decision making.
  • Camp/Event
  • Doral Publix Junior Golf Classic
  • 12/21/20 to 12/23/20
  • Camp/Event
  • HJGT RedTail Thanksgiving Junior Open
  • 11/28/20 to 11/29/20
  • Finished solo 4th posting 76-73. Warm up for my winter tournament season. Was in the hunt for a win the entire time. Playing in the north, I had some trouble with the tight and sandy lies in Florida. Putting was good and proximity between 160-180 was amazing. This course took driver out of my hands for most of the tournament. Luckily, my 3W saved the day.
  • Camp/Event
  • Class 3A Regional Championship
  • 10/06/20 to 10/06/20
  • Shot 74 on a day blowing 25 with gusts up to 35. Tied for 1st at the end on regulation with my teammate (a Clemson recruit). 2 hole playoff ensued and I prevailed as Regional champion thanks to a 20 ft birdie putt. Huge confidence booster for me going up against one of the best junior golfers in the country.
  • Camp/Event
  • AJGA Sung Hyun Park Jr Championship
  • 9/05/20 to 9/06/20
  • I shot 75-71. My first tournament at elevation. Learned that it is a different game at that altitude. On the second round, I was 4 under thru 15 and in the hunt for another top 10. I succumbed to the pressure unfortunately and did not close it out like I hoped. But being that deep at that junction of the tournament was a profound learning experience. Next time when I'm in that position again, I'm sure I will be able to close.
  • Camp/Event
  • Illinois State Junior Amatuer
  • 8/11/20 to 8/13/20
  • Shot 79-84-MC. Although I wish I could take this one back, this was a critical for my development. After the sting went away, I learned that entering a tournament intimidated by a golf course will never end well. You can't always control the course a competition is being held at. So being honest with myself about my angst leading up to this tournament would have allowed me to prepare better for it. Perhaps a couple of more practice rounds, an on course lesson and especially playing #3-#6 a couple of hundred times to make me more comfortable.
  • Camp/Event
  • AJGA Stan Utley Junior Championship
  • 7/27/20 to 7/29/20
  • Shot 72-72 for my first Top 10 at an AJGA. Tough conditions in the second round with wind and rain to make a big move on the field. Learned to settle down mentally in the stretch of a tournament. If I were putting a little better, I would have won the tournament.
