Hi, my name is Cade Lutgen and I love baseball. I've played baseball since I was 5 years old and got hooked Summer of '23 when my 12U Lumberjacks took a week-long trip to a tournament in Cooperstown, NY. There are so many great things about baseball! The sweet spot of the bat on the ball, stealing bases, diving for a ball hit into the LC/RC gap, making a perfect throw from Center Field, hitting a walk-off to win it, pine tar on the grip of the bat, the perfect lines in the grass, hanging in the dugout with the guys and traveling to see new places. The last two seasons of baseball have taught me a great deal about how to practice. I went from just sort of showing up and playing, to going all-in on the process of putting in the time to practice on my own. It's rewarding to put in the work and then be able to contribute in games. It makes the games a ton of fun and it makes the games mean more. My dad coached my brother and I in football and told us that doing your job on every play means being a man your family can rely on. "Don't be a deadbeat Dad" means that football is practice for being a dad later on in life. You have no choice but to succeed, because your family relies on your effort to succeed every day. I think that the same can be said of baseball and school. Handling business and putting in the extra reps in the classroom, cage, field & gym allows me to be able to feed my team when it matters. More than all of the things I love about the game listed above, baseball gives me the chance to practice being a guy that my friends and family can depend on.
