My name is Jared Thames. This past year I played on a defensive line that advanced to a Texas 3A area championship. I'm played at NG, DT , and DE in a defensive scheme that plays a 4-3 and 3-4. I'm 6' and weigh 265 lbs. Having a GPA of 3.75 is the result of me placing the utmost importance on my studies. I am able to maintain my GPA while having a job, being involved in extra-curricular activities and church commitments. My current test bests are bench press @ 385 pounds, squat @ 535 pounds and power clean @ 285 pounds. This past season I was named the District 7-3A Lineman of the Year, while also earning Academic All-State honors. In powerlifting, I worked my way to being the 2012 THSPA Division 2 State Champion, in the 275lb weight class. As a student-athlete, I believe in leading by example. I believe in being disciplined in my school-work/workouts year-round and being accountable to my coaches and teachers are two ways I embody leadership. My high school program puts a heavy emphasis on our weight-lifting workouts. Mondays - Thursdays, I show up at 6:30 in the morning and do my power-lifting workout (during power-lifting season, or complete my after school workout on days I work after school), go to class, go through 5th period work out, then come back and do an after school work out with my position coach until 5:00-5:30. I have always wanted to play college football and pursue a college education in engineering or education. I'm looking for a school where I will be given the aforementioned opportunities while also allowing me to be a student-athlete. I'm open to any size school, any division, anywhere in the United States. I will give strong consideration to schools that are able to assist with the financial aspect of college. I'm the third oldest of five kids in a single parent household. Playing early is a plus. However, I wouldn't mind watching and learning from others before me should I have to wait my turn. No matter where I play, I will promise my team to play at the highest competition level possible and make a positive impact on and off the field.
