Derek Check '14 Recruiting Profile

My name is Derek Check and I am a 2014 graduate from Centennial High School in Bakersfield, California. Sports have always been a major part of my life. As a matter of fact, my parents had me in a basketball gym, in a infant carrier, since the day I was born watching my uncles play and/or coach. I started playing at the age of 4 at a local YMCA and by the age of 8 was asked to try out and join a club team. I have had the privilege and honor of playing on 5 club teams as a point guard and/or shooting guard. Working hard in life, school, and basketball are my major goals in life. I have also had the experience of playing soccer, football, hockey, and baseball which have all contribute to my basketball journey, leadership skills, and work ethic. My aspiration is to continue to learn and grow in my skills and knowledge about basketball so that I can continue to get better and play at a higher (collegiate) level. Most importantly, my goals are to get my education and do what I love to do best, PLAY BASKETBALL! My dream is to play basketball at a top university and regardless of what people tell me I will not stop working until I know that I have done all that is possible to achieve this. I am open to many school options in order to pursue my basketball and educational career.
