HIGH SCHOOL CUBE NEWS (2015)
The Class of 2017 in Illinois is poised to take off this spring and summer for college coaches, while moving into difference-making mode for their respective high school teams next winter as juniors. Here are a host of other players in the class set to take a big leap forward as prospects –– some known from their productive sophomore years this past winter at the varsity level, others we will soon get to know.
¦ Lucas Williamson, 6-4, 2G, Young
After showing flashes this past season for the Dolphins, Williamson is ready to take a big step forward. With coveted perimeter size and space-the-floor shooting ability, he’s among the top 20 prospects in the sophomore class.

WHEELING, WV (Future150) -- As the new year kicks into full gear, so does the action on the hardwood. In Wheeling, WV for Friday and Saturday is the Cancer Research Classic, and Day One certainly did not disappoint. Without further adieu, here's the players who stood out...
Lucas Williamson (2017/Whitney Young): Despite being outmatched against powerhouse Montverde Academy, the sophomore Williamson shined late in the game for the Dolphins, scoring 17 of his team-high 19 points in the fourth quarter. Williamson was able to bring a bright spot to Whitney Young when they needed it, and the 6-foot-4 forward also knocked down two triples in a big 30-15 fourth quarter that will likely give the Dolphins some momentum heading into their game against Huntington Prep on Saturday.

Lucas Williamson shines as Young withstands West Aurora comeback.
Sophomore Lucas Williamson has worked his way into the starting lineup and his key play in the third quarter of the Dolphins’ 55-54 win over West Aurora on Saturday at Glenbard East should keep him in that spot. Williamson scored nine of his 13 points in the third, helping to delay West Aurora’s comeback until the the very end of the game.

Lucas Williamson is a 2017 prospect that showed tons of potential with his play for the Illinois Wolves 15U.  The freshman has good height at 6’2” for a young guard prospect.  He is a well-rounded player that has a high IQ and good feel for the game.  He passes it and can knock down mid-range jumpers.

We talked with him about how it went in July during the evaluation period.

“It went good.  I played up with the 15U.  It has been a lot of fun.  We played games against good competition.”

What did he learn by playing up an age level?

“It helps with my basketball IQ because the game is a lot quicker.  I am used to a slower game playing against the 14U.  I have to pick it up a lot quicker.  Everything is one more step up.”

The guard spoke about what he feels the best assets are in his game.

“For my height I can dribble the ball pretty well, shoot, and I think I am an all-around player.  I can play the guard or the post.”

Williamson will be attending Whitney Young and is excited to be playing with some of the best players in the country.

“I am looking forward to playing at Whitney Young because they are one of the best high school teams in the nation.  I am looking forward to getting more looks and go up against great competition out there.”
